United Arab Emirates - Jan 2013

Jan White and Ivan Cottom proved too good over the 6 rounds of golf recently played across the United Arab Emirates. A variety of courses were played in Abu Dhabi, Oman and Dubai.

Unusual and unseasonal windy conditions prevailed on three of the days making it tough and adding to the challenge of returning a good score. 

Jan White from Concord Golf Club raced out to a commanding lead ahead of the field and led by 14 shots going into the final day. Even though Jan played her worst round of the 6 courses at Dubai Creek on the last day, it was enough to hold out Wendy Northey (Mt Osmond) who came from nowhere to get up and run second by 7 shots.

Ivan Cottom (Killara Golf Club) struggled on day 5 in tough conditions and gave up a fair part of his lead going into the 6th round. Dubai Creek Golf Club provided beautiful weather but still enough wind to make the conditions a little tricky. Ivan's 37 points on the last day was outstanding on a course where the rough was extremely penal. His strong finish was enough to hold out Alan Balderston (The Lakes) by 4 shots. Both players will be invited to attend the AVGA Christmas Day as guests of the AVGA.
