Australian International Seniors Golf Championship - May 2013

Sanctuary Cove presented both The Palms and The Pines courses in magnificent condition during their hosting of the 34th Australian International Seniors Golf Championship from Monday 06 May to Friday 10 May.

The contrasting designs of the two courses presented our senior players with challenges in adapting their games to different greens, bunkering and layout. The Sanctuary Cove staff were excellent and assisted our seniors during the course of their stay.

Going in to the final round of the Mens Stroke Championship last year's winner Bryan Gulliver (from Maitland off a scratch handicap) led Keith Flood (from Coonababran off a 5 handicap) by one shot. Phil Constable (Northern) was running third just 3 shots off the lead. By shooting 5 over par on the final day at The Pines, Bryan Gulliver held on to defend his title to win by a single shot.  Keith Flood (from Coonababran off a 5 handicap) also carded 5 over on the final day to take the runner-up prize.

Lloyd Sutherland (The Heritage) led the Mens Stableford Championship by 2 shots going in to the final round from Daryl Edmondson (Rowes Bay) with a further 2 shots back to WInston Doyle (Concord) in 3rd place and Jeffrey Jensen (Rowes Bay) a shot back in 4th place.
But all that changed after the final round where Jeffrey Jensen fired a strong round of 34 points at The Pines to get up and win by a single shot from Daryl Edmondson

The Ladies Stroke Championship came down to a tussle between Tracey Wood (from Camden Lakeside) and Liz Graham (from Griffith).  Tracey shot an impressive 7 over par at The Pines course in the final round to close out a comfortable win.

The Ladies Stableford Championship was very close. Jude Carling-Sacharias and Laurel Foster (The Lakes) were two shots off the lead with Alisa Stackpool (from Concord and our 2008 Stableford Champion) four shots away going into the final round. Alisa Stackpool despite having a ruling go against her, returned a wonderful 35 points tp get up and take the Championship for her second time by one stableford point.

Conditions during the whole week were perfect (except for one heavy shower on Thursday).
