Queenstown is a mystical and magical place - great views, great food, great wine and great golf courses.
The only unknown is the weather and after conducting tours to Queenstown in excess of 30 years I admit I have never seen snow in February like we did this year. Yes that is right SNOW ! Apparently they received 35 centimetres on the back of the Remarkables enabling that Ski Field to have Snow Boarding.
The Remarkables and even Cecil Peak even had a good dusting of snow.
Needless to say, the first couple of rounds were unseasonally chilly. It did not seem to affect Peter Tanner from Pelican Waters G.C. coming off his win in the North Island, Peter shot to the lead after two rounds by 2 points from Jim Welch (Bonville G.C.) Going into the final round both Peter and Jim were tied for the lead - however Peter's terrific closing score of 38 points at Jacks Point was enough for him to win by a clear 9 points.
In the Ladies Competition - Skye Briggs from Monash Golf Club held a clear 4 shot lead after 3 rounds from Liz Graham (Griffith G.C.). Isabelle Goss from Monash Golf Club tried to close the gap but came up just one stableford point short with Liz Graham a further shot back in third place
