The 2016 Championships at RACV Royal Pines Resort

Five days of terrific weather was experienced over the week of our Championships at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

The new redesigned 18 holes by Graham Marsh was the talk of the week - it has turned the course from a "Resort" style to one that is a challenging test. Most would agree that the course has improved and is a great test of a golfer's course management.

Mens and Ladies events were hotly contested with Brad Smith (Woolgoolga - Hcp 4) firing a wonderful 73 off the stick on the final day. It was the best of the week and enough to get up and defeat Peter Roth (Concord G.C. - Hcp 9) by 3. In the Ladies Stroke competition there was no stopping Tracey Wood (Lakeside at Camden - Hcp 4) from defending her title that she won last year. Consistent golf over the three rounds saw her clear out for an easy 15 shot victory over the 2014 Stroke Champion Liz Graham (Griffith G.C. - Hcp 10).

The Handicap Championship lead changed several times in the Mens and Ladies. However it was some amazing scores by Micheal Walker (RAAF Darwin G.C. - Hcp 28). WIth 36 + 44 + 41 stableford points over the 3 days he coasted in for a 7 shot win over Geoff Senior (Killara G.C. - Hcp 13) the 2012 Mens Handicap Champion. The Ladies was a very close affair with anyone of 12 players having a chance on the final day. However Jan Doyle's (Concord G.C. - Hcp 28) final round of 35 points was enough to take out the Handicap Title by a single shot over Julie Johnston (Cromer G.C. - Hcp 25)
